Audition Notice for Eugene O’Neill’s Diff’rent
Provincetown Theater Company is seeking local non-union actors for a September 2010 production of Eugene O’Neill’s DIFF’RENT, directed by the Tennessee Williams Festival’s executive director, Jef Hall-Flavin.
We are trying to find the last four actors for Diff’rent. The director leaves town on July 20th, so auditions need to be arranged in the next few days.
*Emma. 20 year old woman about to get married: principled, virginal, intelligent, attractive, has a backbone, but sensitive. A sea-captain’s daughter.
*Harriet. Harriet is in her early 20’s, practical, loving, a good friend, a fisherman’s daughter.
*Caleb. 60 year old whaling captain. Single, lonely, spurned, lovable old cuss.
*Benny. 25 year old man, just back from the army (WWI). Egotistical and fun-loving, he preys on an older woman’s affection to get booze, money and girls. A charming, but no-good lout.

DERIN BROCKOVICH – The Musical
Written by Steve Alden Nelson & Michael Sottile.

In Provincetown, MA, something is causing men’s dinks to shrink. Could it be the Cape Cod water, the delectable fried clams, or perhaps the controversial cell-phone towers emanating a poisonous signal? Leave it to Derin Brockovich, a small-town nobody with a big-time spirit to solve the mystery that is plaguing this seaside resort town. A hilarious send-up of a movie with nearly the same name, DERIN BROCKOVICH is a musical extravaganza—complete with intrigue, romance, tight-fitting costumes, and a whole lot of heart.
Breakdown: Non-union only.
Derin Brockovich: (male) Sexy/nerdy – late 20’s/early 30’s, gay, bold, brassy, selfish, guarded and does not mince words. Due to a series of circumstances, he evolves into a person who is strong, confident, tender and loving. A tenor with excellent comic timing.
Dick Small: (male) 40’s/50’s—a small town lawyer sporting a really bad toupee. Gay, single, a confident exterior with a less than confident interior – a cross between Albert Finney & Charles Nelson Reilly. A baritone with excellent comic timing. Must move well.
Whore-neeto: (male) The drag queen of all drag queens and the next-door neighbor of Derin Brockovich. A Provincetown cabaret sensation, Whore-neeto speaks and sings in a lame Spanish accent—and is the love interest to Derin. A high baritone with excellent comic timing.
Betty Lichter: (female) 18 (or so), the consummate villain. Betty owns the majority of cell phone towers in North America, talks in a southern drawl, likes her whiskey, and dresses like a headliner for the Grand Ole’ Oprey. An alto with excellent comic timing. Must move well.
Creepy Guy: (male) 18 (or so) The young science geek who exposes his long and sordid history with Betty Lichter, then unveils Betty’s dark secrets, including the cell phone technology that is causing pain and suffering amongst the townsfolk. A strong pop tenor.

This short play (45 min) will be performed at the Portuguese Festival on Friday, June 25th between 12 and 2pm, and will be repeated during the celebration of the Provincetown Monument’s 100th birthday, the first week of August, 2010.
Director’s responsibilities will be holding auditions, designing the minimal set and running rehearsals.
Small stipend and supply money available.
